Value-added tax (VAT)
The standard VAT rate is 18% in Rwanda. Some goods and services are zero-rated in the country.
Paid Time-Off
Employees are generally entitled to 18 days of paid annual leave. An additional day is granted for every 3 years of service up to a maximum of 21 days of paid leave.
Sick Leave
In Rwanda, workers are entitled to up to six months of sick leave – providing a medical certificate is submitted to the employer. If the sick leave exceeds 15 days, the employer is free to require that the medical certificate be signed by three recognized medical doctors. However, only the first 3 months are paid.
Maternity Leave
In Rwanda, women are entitled to a maximum of 12 weeks of paid maternity leave.
Paternity Leave
In Rwanda, men are entitled to 4 consecutive days of paid paternity leave.
Employees are entitled to severance pay in Rwanda. The remuneration is regulated as follows:
